Belarusian Transport Minister Alyaksei Auramenka has confirmed the information about the first-ever low-cost air company’s entering the Belarusian market, At the moment, however, only one direction (Minsk-Budapest) is to be launched.
In addition, the ministry’s department for the development of regional airports is looking into options for haveing flights to regional airports of Belarus, TUT.by reports. The Belarusian side is holding negotiations with a number of lowcosters, the minister stressed.
Interestingly, when buying a one-way direct flight from Minsk to Budapest from the national air carrier Belavia, a traveller pays about 363 Belarusian rubles ($180).
Wizz Air is a Hungarian low-cost airline, one of the largest in the world. It operates mainly in the Central European market.
The Hungarian company has been negotiating with Belarus for almost a year now. Initially, it was reported that flights from Budapest would be sent to the Belarusian city of Hrodna. Later, the parties decided to implement the Budapest-Minsk direction.
