In wake of Belsat TV report: Police launch probe into death of worker


Alyaksandr Shakhray, a resident of Hantsavichy village and driver at a local consumer cooperative, died at work last summer.

The man was fatally injured, but the police refused to investigate his death within six months. His superiors tried to convince his family and friends that he was died after suffering a heart attack.

Only after his widow Tatsyana Shakhray had asked our channel and independent trade unions for help, law enforcers took the case.

In November, Belsat TV aired the story about the tragedy the Shakhray family had faced. The authors of the program It’s My Right said that Uladzimir Maley, an inspector of the REP Trade Union, helped the widow to file an appeal against the inaction of the police and prosecutors. According tothe latest information, the probe was launched on December, 18.

Hantsavichy police department opened a criminal case under Art. 428 of the Criminal Code of Belarus against unidentified employee/employees who unduly performed their duties, which resulted in the death of Alyaksandr Shakhray, who was electrocuted when getting the company GAZ-3309 car ready.
