Hundreds of people evacuated in Russia due to floods

Heavy rains and snowfalls in Russia caused the river to burst its banks and flood settlements in the North-Western and Central Federal Districts. The Novgorod and Vologda Oblasts suffered the most.

The Novgorod Region has introduced the state of emergency. As reported by the regional EMERCOM, according to latest data, 52 people were evacuated from 41 settlements, 142 residential buildings were flooded.

The authorities of the region hope that it will be possible to eliminate the consequences of flooding in the shortest possible time, as the water level is already dropping.

“After the damage to their property has been assessed, the victims will receive compensation,” Igor Verkhodanov, deputy head of the Novgorod region governor’s administration, quotes the regional government’s website.

In the settlements affected by the cyclone, there are now working employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other services, representatives of the regional government and district administrations.
