Homiel: Belsat TV contributor facing hefty fine over Facebook video

The Homiel police sent a protocol to freelance journalist Kastus Zhukouski. He is accused of illegal production and distribution of media products.

In mid March, the local police raided the house of Homiel-based activist Barys Anikeyeu over allegedly ‘insulting the president’. Two policemen entered his house without giving any reasons or showing a search warrant, later seven officers joined them. They locked Anikeyeu and his family in the house and let no one in. Journalist Kastus Zhukouski arrived at the scene and started filming.

Now the authorities are charging him with violation of the law due his web streaming on his own Facebook account. In accordance with Article 22.9 of the Administrative Code, a fine of up to BYN 1,225 may be imposed on the freelancer.
