Health Ministry: 250 coronavirus cases over past day

The Belarusian Health Ministry has updated information on the coronavirus situation in the country.

To date, Belarusian health professionals have registered 63,804 persons infected with the novel coronavirus. In the past 24 hours, 250 new cases have been confirmed.

“For the entire period of the spread of the infection in the country, 429 patients who were previously tested positive for the coronavirus have died; they had chronic and co-existing illnesses,” the statement reads.

On July 5, the Belarusian authorities reported 423 coronavirus deaths in the republic; thus, another six persons have passed away within the last day.

51,120 patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 have already recovered. By the moment, 1,074,240 tests for detecting the virus have been conducted in Belarus.

Last week, President Alyaksandr Lukashenka expressed the opinion that Belarus had almost got over the coronavirus infection.

As reported earlier, even on the back of the increasing infection rate, the Belarusian authorities did not introduce any quarantine measures. Alyaksandr Lukashenka claimed that imposing a nationwide lockdown would not improve the situation in Belarus. In his opinion, such steps might deal a crippling blow to the daily life of the nation. Although the Belarusian leader admitted that the recommendations by the WHO should be studied in detail, he stressed the country would run its own course.
