On Sunday, March 24, a gala concert dedicated to Freedom Day will be held in Kyiv Square in Minsk. The format of the event was recently decided upon by the leaders of the center-right coalition.
“There will be a mass event in Minsk under the white-red-white flags,” said Yury Hubarevich, chairman of the movement “For Freedom,” “The event will be in Minsk and will fit into the legal format.”
During a press conference in Minsk, the chairman of the BSDP, Ihar Barysau, recalled that civil society representatives had previously been refused to hold rallies at the Dynamo stadium and near the Opera Theater. It was only possible to coordinate with the local authorities the holding of a concert in Kalozhsky Park in Hrodna on March 23 from 13:00 to 17:00.
In order to prevent a situation in which the Freedom Day would not be celebrated in Minsk at all, the opposition decided to organize celebrations in Kyiv Square. It is one of six venues in the capital where mass events can be held according to the notification principle. The relevant information was submitted to the Minsk City Executive Committee last week.
The gathering of participants is scheduled for 12:00. On March 24, the concert will begin at 13 o’clock. Hubarevich urged people to come to the Kyiv Square with national symbols and flags.
“This venue can fit no fewer people than the venue near the Opera Theater,” he says. “We will not limit the number of participants.”
The cost of the event in Kyiv Square can exceed $ 5,000, Hubarevich said.
