Former Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations faces 8 years in prison

The public prosecutor demands that the former Minister of Emergencies of Belarus Dzmitry Byahun be punished with 8 years of imprisonment in a penal colony with a reinforced regime. The second accused in this case, former director of “Grifrestavratsiya” Alyaksandr Hryts, is facing five years of freedom restriction without transfer to colony.

According to the prosecution, Byahun repeatedly took bribes from May 2013 to March 2017. In particular, being in the position of Head of the Minsk City Administration of the MOE in 2013-2014, he received from Hryts 5 bribes in the amount of not less than 90 million Belarusian rubles (before denomination). The issue was the approval of work and timely payment of the contract between MOE department and “Grifrestavratsiya”. In addition, he also took bribes in the position of Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations.

Dmitry Byahun is being accused of committing a crime under part 3 of the Article 430 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (bribery in large amount). The second accused was charged with Part 5 of the Article 16, Part 2 of the Article 431 (incitement to bribery) of the Criminal Code.
