First oil tanker for Belarus from Saudi Arabia arrives in Klaipeda

A tanker with oil for Belarus from Saudi Arabian national oil company Saudi Aramco has arrived at the port of Klaipeda, BelTA reports.

According to Belneftekhim press secretary Aliaksandr Tsishchanka, the tanker with 87 thousand tons of oil arrived at night and waited to be unloaded until the morning. The oil will be delivered to Belarus by rail.

At the end of 2019, Minsk was unable to sign oil contracts with major Russian suppliers. As a result, in the first quarter of 2020, Russian oil imports to Belarus decreased by 77% to only 1.04 million tons. At the height of the oil crisis, Alyaksandr Lukashenka gave the government the task to reduce Russia’s share in Belarus’ oil imports to 30-40%. It was only in April that the government managed to reach an agreement with the main Russian suppliers against the background of the global oil price decline.
