On February 18, the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission supported a draft decision of the EEC Council on the establishment of a zero rate of import customs duties on electric cars until the end of 2020.

This measure will apply to both legal entities and individuals. It is planned that it will be in force until the end of the year, reports the EEC website.

Chairman of the EEC Board Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that this measure will contribute to the formation of the EEC market of electric cars, the development of their production and charging infrastructure. According to him, the three countries are ready to create their own electric cars.

Zero duty has already been applied to imported electric cars from September 2016 to August 2017. During this time, imports of electric cars in Belarus increased almost fourfold. But at that time, this measure was not active for individuals.

The EEC Council will make the final decision. In November 2019, Russia opposed the reduction or abolition of duties on imports of electric cars by Belarus.
