A Baghdad court sentenced 19 citizens of Russia to life imprisonment. The women were found guilty of participating in the Islamic State group and supporting terrorists.
Since the autumn of 2017, the Chechen authorities have had success in returning more than 100 women and kids detained in Syria and Iraq to the Russian Federation. Their husbands, who fought on the side of Daesh had been killed or put in prison. After their return, several female residents of Dagestan were arrested for their participation in illegal armed groups, some of them have been already convicted.
In April, two women, natives of Dagestan, got life terms in Iraq. According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 50-70 citizens of Russia and over 100 children are currently being held in Baghdad prisons.
