Belarusian 'Crystal Swan' named best CIS film


The XXXII Ceremony of the “NIKA” Film Award took place on March 30. The Belarusian film “Crystal Swan” by director Darya Zhuk won in the nomination “The Best Film of the CIS and Baltic Countries”, the organizers report.

“Crystal Swan” is also the first Belarusian film that made it to the Oscars long-list in the nomination “Best Foreign Film”.

The main character of the film, Evelina, lives in Minsk of 1996. She has a law degree, but she dreams of becoming a DJ in the United States of America. Because of an error in a fake certificate for visa, she finds herself in a provincial town, where fate brings her to an unfamiliar family that is preparing for the wedding.

The filming took place entirely in Belarus. It was a joint production of film companies from Belarus, USA, Germany, and Russia. An international film crew worked on the film. Russian actors Alina Nasibullina and Ivan Mulin, as well as the actress of the Yanka Kupala Theater Svyatlana Anikei performed the main roles in the film.
