Belarus, Russia may scrap roaming charges in two months

The document on dropping roaming charges may be signed by September 15, Uladzimir Syamashka, Ambassador of Belarus to Russia, said during Thursday visit to Novgorod region.

“If my memory serves me well, there is the presidents’direct instruction on roaming – a corresponding document is to be signed by September 15, 2019,” news agency TASS quotes him.

In spite of ‘certain nuances’, the ministries of the two countries have already come to some kind of consensus, the envoy stresssed.

The proposal to scrap international roaming between Russia and Belarus was put forward by Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council as early as 2017. Russia’s Communications Ministry supported the proposal.

However, Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Kanstantsin Shulhan said in May, 2019 that the process might need ‘two to three years to finish’.
