Belarus Interior Minister set to create jobs for ex-cons in kolkhozes

A specialized agricultural enterprise may be established as part of the ministry’s criminal and executive system in order to employ former prisoners, Belarusian Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich announced on Tuesday.

“Thus, former convicts will be provided with an opportunity to successfully re-socialize. Firstly, their employment will contribute to reducing recidivism, and secondly, it will help people integrate into society, get a salary, build a family, raise children, pay fines,” Shunevich said.

Agricultural unit Farm-Agro located in Svetlahorsk district has been chosen as an experimental facility. According to the minister, the relevant documents are being prepared to be submitted to the government.

“If we succeed here, the project will be spread further. In case of our success, we will implement the practices it all territorial departments of internal affairs, except for Minsk,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Shunevich.
