In the wake of Wednesday’s crash of the Ukrainian airliner in Tehran, the Belarusian national air carrier has withheld flights over Iran and Iraq, TUT.by reports.

Among other offers, Belavia has a weekly Minsk-Dubai chartered flight through Iran. However, on January 10, the corresponding plane will bypass both Iran and Iraq.

According to news agency RIA Novosti, the Federal Air Transport Agency has strongly recommended Russian airlines against entering the airspace above Iran, Iraq, the Persian Gulf, and Gulf of Oman. Ukraine is also expected to cease flights to Iran on January, 9.

As reported earlier, a Boeing 737-800 owned by the Ukraine International Airlines crashed down soon after the takeoff near Imam Khomeini Airport in Tehran; all 167 passengers and 9 crew are dead.

A few hours before the tragedy, Iranian military fired ballistic missiles at US bases in Iraq.
