ASF virus found in Hrodna meat-processing plant products

Russian veterinarians have discovered sausage with the DNA of African swine fever on the border with Belarus. It was produced by the Hrodna meat processing plant. Food inspectors had to destroy the infected products.

Overall, the pork sausage shipment weighed about half a ton, the products were transported by a resident of the Tver region of Russia, severinform.ru reports.

African swine fever virus does not pose a threat to humans, but it is deadly for animals.

The Hrodna meat processing plant management is yet not aware of the incident, website 015.BY reports.

“We do not know about the incident, we have no documents. Usually we receive urgent reports, but so far we have not had any information from the Russians and from the department in Minsk. It’s the first time I’ve heard about it,” the chief veterinarian of the Hrodna meat-processing plant Iryna Lisouskaya said.

A similar situation with meat products of the Hrodna enterprise took place in September this year. As a result, the Rosselkhoznadzor imposed temporary restrictions on the supply of products from the plant.
