Another monument to riot police to appear in Belarus, this time in Minsk

There are plans to erect a memorial sign of the special police forces in Minsk. A solemn ceremony of laying a commemorative capsule took place at the place of installation of the sculpture.

The ceremony was attended by Head of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee Syarhei Daroshka, Commander of the Special Police Force of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee Dzmitry Balaba and Chairman of the Synodal Department of the Belarusian Orthodox Church on cooperation with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus and other military formations, Archpriest Serhiy Kuzmenkou, Minsk-News agency reports.

The memorable sign is set to be installed in March. It is currently being worked on by the People’s Artist of the Chechen Republic, Honored Artist of the Republic of Dagestan, sculptor Khizri Asadulaev.

This will be the third monument to riot police in Belarus. The first has been installed in Vitsebsk. The second appeared in Mahiliouv. The memorial sign was created by the Vitsebsk sculptor Syarhei Sotnikau.

Riot police in Belarus became notorious for their participation in the suppression of opposition rallies.
