A 71-year-old Norwegian citizen was detained in Brest, Alan Smith, who himself was previously convicted in Belarus, reports on Facebook.

The niece of the detainee, Camilla Gleditsh, contacted Alan Smith. According to her, 71-year-old Dag Wivestad was detained and is kept in pre-trial detention center-7 in Brest since September 29. He is accused under Part 3 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code – violent acts of a sexual nature against a minor. He faces from 8 to 15 years in prison.
The detained Norwegian is now in retirement, he used to work as an auditor. According to his relatives, he has always shown interest in the events of the Second World War, and spent the last years travelling to the places where they took place. In Belarus, the Norwegian had previously been with his wife. In September, he returned.

The niece notes that on September 29, 2019 her uncle and a friend were walking to the hotel from a restaurant. In the corridor, a 10-year-old girl, who spoke English, and her two younger brothers, who had come from the wedding at a neighboring restaurant, approached them.
According to a relative of the detainee, the Norwegian, surprised that the girl spoke English, wanted to encourage her to continue her studies. The conversation lasted about 2 minutes, but then the men from the wedding approached the foreigners and started beating them. Soon the police showed up and detained the foreigners. A friend of Wivestad’s was released and Dag is being held in a detention center.
According to the accusation, the Norwegian touched the girl’s intimate places. But his niece says that the whole conversation was recorded on a security camera, and nothing of this is visible on the tape.
“My uncle is a good man with no criminal record who has never done anything wrong,” says his niece.
British citizen Alan Smith, who reported about the detention, had served a sentence in penal colony # 3 near Vitsebsk for organizing illegal migration. He was sentenced to two years in prison. However, the 40-year-old man pleaded not guilty and rejected a possibility of parole.
