Atomic farms of Lukashenka to mine crypto currencies

Former assistant to head of Belarus on economic issues, and now the ambassador in China, Kiril Rudy offered to bet on crypto-currencies.

“In the conditions of the expected surplus of electricity after the launch of the nuclear power plant, large miners could load the Belarusian nuclear power plant,” he said.

The idea, however, is not new.

After neighboring countries refused to buy electricity from Astravets, the authorities started talking about mandatory electrification of the domestic economy, or about the national electric car. And the Internet was filled with memes and jokes about where you can actually put unnecessary electricity from the future nuclear power plant — mine the bitcoin.

“The situation with electricity and nuclear power plant is a classic case that clearly demonstrates that it is very dangerous to joke in our country. After all, sometimes these jokes become reality,” says financial analyst Vadim Iossub.

Will it work out though?

The founder of the domestic crypto-currency called taler, Siarhey Laurynenka, on the contrary welcomes the transformation of the joke into a serious proposal to mine at the facilities of the Astravets nuclear power plant.

“Good idea! If it is profitable, then why not? Yes, there is a question of what to do with electricity from the BelNPP, given the position of Poland and Lithuania on this issue. So if the miners could take this electricity and direct it to money-making, which will then remain in Belarus, to pay for the cost of electricity, why not?” believes Siarhey.
