Six protocols over last two days: Homiel police give no peace to Belsat TV contributor

6 protocols have been recently drawn upon Homiel-based freelance journalist Larysa Shchyrakova.

On March 25 she was to appear at the police department and the prosecutor’s office. But on this day, the journalist was covering a march of ‘non-parasites’ in Homiel.

After the rally, she was detained. The police took the journalist to the prosecutor’s office where she was given an official warning against contributing to Belsat TV.

Then Shchyrakova was driven to the police station, where another two reports – for failure to appear after being summoned and for illegal production of media products – were drawn up. In addition, she was subpoenaed to the police again.

On March 26, the local police made several protocols for Shchyrakova’s being late to the police; for the alleged mess near her home flat; for failing to register her dog as well as ones for illegal production of media products again.

“Children’s officer Dzmitry Volkau threatened to take my son away,” Shchyrakova added.

Last week Larysa Shchyrakova was 161 BYN fined. She was tried for taking part in the protests of non-parasites in the Belarusian town of Rahachou on March 12 (Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code). It should be noted that the woman was present at the rally as a reporter.

The pressure on Belsat TV journalists and contributors has been ramped up lately. 26 incidents of harassment have been recorded since March 12: our reporters were arrested, threatened with murder, beaten, fined, barred from performing their professional duties.
